Class
taught by Mary Vastola, owner of
The Ponte Vedra Soap Shoppe.
A 16 yr. veteran soap maker.
Classes are private or up to 3 people in your party and
are scheduled weekdays around your schedule. Class usually
last 5 hrs. Four batches of cold process soap are taught
(including Milk Based Soaps) with the student
having
a
hands-on experience. Students receive recipes,
information booklet, discount coupon for
supplies and 3 bars
of soap to
take home. No one under age 18.

Covered in the class:
A brief history and basic
chemistry of soap making
Necessary materials, supplies and equipment
Safety considerations when working with sodium hydroxide
Choosing oils, saponification values and lye calculators
Taking accurate measurements & proper mixing temperatures
Adding color and texture to soap with iron oxides, botanicals, spices & clays
Using essential oils to scent your soap naturally, and fragrance oils
Preparing your molds and molding options
Insulating, cutting, curing and storing your finished soap
Decorating and packaging the finished product
Cost: $140 (5 hrs, private
class/additional people in your party are $120 each)
